Last weekend on May 19, the world waited with bated breath for the biggest wedding of the year- the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a biracial, American actress! In a lot of ways, this wedding broke from the many traditions of royal weddings of the past- and not just because Markle is a half-black American! Traditional or not, the wedding was an incredible event that had the whole world enraptured and the UK has definitely accepted their new Duchess of Sussex with open arms!

The details of the royal wedding will definitely be influencing wedding trends for the rest of the year, as everyone aims to capture the same elegant essence surrounding the royal affair. We’ve broken down a few of our favorite details that anyone can channel on their special days!

The Dress

Of course the dress would be one of our favorite parts! The dresses at royal weddings are always a spectacular affair, and this one did not disappoint! Made of luxurious stiff satin with a modest, yet trendy bateau neck, this gorgeous couture wedding gown was created by British designer Clare Waight Keller, the first female Artistic Director at the renowned French fashion house Givenchy. This sleek and chic gown is definitely going to bolster the modern, minimalist trend that has been taking the bridal world by storm! The long-sleeved gown also resembles the lovely long-sleeved lace Alexander McQueen gown that Kate Middleton donned on the day of her royal wedding.

The Veil

We’ve written at length about the different kinds of wedding veils, but we have truly never seen one so beautiful! This gorgeous, lace-trimmed chapel length veil was so long and dramatic it made Meghan Markle look like a literal angel! Plus how sweet are the children making sure it doesn’t drag on the ground? This dramatic veil perfectly accented an extremely dramatic event at an incredible location. If you would like to channel this look, we recommend doing as Markle did, and pairing the show-stopping veil with a more understated dress.

The Second Dress

Even the newest addition to the royal family is jumping on the reception dress trend! We love that she kept it simple in this gorgeous high-necked gown made by Stella McCartney. This modern, chic style is much less restrictive and would allow her to enjoy her wedding reception to the fullest!

The Tribute to Princess Diana

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle definitely wanted to honor the late Princess Diana (Harry’s mother) in their ceremony, and one of the ways that Markle included Diana is in the beautiful blue cocktail ring that she included with her reception outfit. The ring belonged to the late Princess, making it the perfect item to honor her, while also satisfying the wedding tradition of something old, something borrowed and something blue! We think statement rings are the perfect accessory to compliment a simply elegant wedding dress!

The Wedding Cake

In a lot of ways, this royal wedding broke from tradition, and the cake is no different! Traditionally, the royal wedding cake is a tiered fruit cake, but the newest royal couple really wanted to capture the fresh flavors of British spring with an un-tiered lemon and elderflower cake covered in clean buttercream and fresh flowers. We would have loved to get a taste of this picture-perfect masterpiece!
